Republican Party wants to ban Warcraft player from office

Political blog Politico has unearthed a press release from the Maine "Grand Old Party" that condemns Democrat Senate candidate Colleen Lachowicz for her "bizarre double life" — namely, having an Orc rogue called Santiaga in World of Warcraft.

Lachowicz, who has blogged publicly about both her Warcraft achievements and her political leanings, is being attacked for statements such as "I'm a level 68 orc rogue girl. That means I stab things ... a lot!" — in the interests of fairness, it should be noted that Santiaga is now level 85. Ding.

The Maine GOP is contending that "Maine needs a State Senator that lives in the real world, not in Colleen's fantasy world". It's even started a website, Colleensworld.com, to draw attention to what it sees as bizarre and aberrant behaviour.

However, Politico reported that the incumbent Republican Senator Tom Martin has seemingly distanced himself from his party's attacks, saying that he was unaware of the press release and that when he met Lachowicz, she "seemed like a nice lady". He even condemned what he called "mudslinging politics".
