  • 106639: Mac OS X 10.1: "You are running Classic without superuser (root privileges)" Message

Reader report: Office install and Repair Privileges Utility Roark Atkinson offers some more good news about this utility: "I had trouble getting MS Word to work after installing the SR1 patch, as others have also noted. I could install SR1 successfully after running the Apple Repair Privileges Utility. This was confirmed in the installer log for the SR1 update. Before there had been numerous errors in the installation log; after running ARPU and running the installer again, there were no errors."

Pref's modified? A follow-up Regarding whether or not Apple's just released Repair Privileges Utility affects preferences settings (see yesterday's item), Gregory Welch replies: "Many preferences seemed at first to have been lost after the update finished. My Networking preferences, Internet, etc. But I rebooted, and all of the preferences appeared fine after that. My guess is that changing the file ownership while the files were in use (while I was logged in) might have left things in an indeterminate state."
