Red Hat replaces CFO

Charles Peters Jr. is taking over, as the company deals with the aftereffects of restating its earnings for the past three fiscal years.

Red Hat on Thursday named Charles Peters Jr. as executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Peters replaces Kevin Thompson, who unexpectedly announced his resignation in June, a few days before the Linux software maker was scheduled to report fiscal first-quarter results.

In July, Red Hat restated earnings for the last three fiscal years. The company also recently reported that it had received a "comment letter" from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission regarding its annual report.

Peters will oversee the company's accounting, finance, treasury, tax, credit and investor relations. Most recently, he served as CFO at Burlington Industries and previously worked for Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), GenRad (now Teradyne) and Boston Edison (now Nstar).

"Charlie is a seasoned professional with a unique depth and breadth of experience in international finance and publicly traded companies that will help lead Red Hat's next phase of growth," Matthew Szulik, Red Hat's CEO, said in a statement.
