One of the most nerve-wracking things about ordering a product from an online retailer is waiting for the tracking number to appear in your inbox. Sometimes the e-mail ends up in your spam folder or, even worse, it's never sent by the vendor.

Thanks to a free service from FedEx called FedEx Delivery Manager, you can keep track of incoming packages and get alerted the moment the shipping label is created. That's right, you no longer need to wait for a tracking number to be sent to you before you start monitoring it. Going even further, you can set up text or e-mail alerts for packages, ensuring that you know what's going on with the shipment the moment a new event happens.

Not only can you sign up to receive alerts regarding incoming packages, but the service also allows you to change delivery date and time, the delivery address, hold at a FedEx location, pre-sign for a package, set a vacation hold and provide general instructions for the delivery person and where your package(s) should be left.

The only two services you'll pay for are scheduling an exact delivery date and time, along with changing the delivery address, with fees ranging from $5 to $10. The other services are all free, costing you only your time to set it all up.

You can enter multiple addresses to monitor, along with multiple names. This is also a convenient way to see when someone is sending you an unexpected gift.

On top of being able to monitor your packages online, you can also use the free FedEx Mobile app on your Android or iOS device keep tabs on your shipments.
