Rebuilding XServe Arrays

Chris Garay notes a potentially serious bug where Apple's Xserve is unable to to rebuild a mirrored drive array under Mac OS X 10.2.x when one of the drives fails. Garay says he received the following message from an Apple engineer who was working with him on the problem:

"I have just found out that this is, in fact, a bug. It worked under Mac OS X 10.1 (which is when I tried it last) but does not under Mac OS X 10.2. Rebuilding mirrored sets fails consistently. This is excruciating. I do not have a time frame for a fix. Live rebuilds are on the feature request list, but it would be nice if the functionality we are supposed to be delivering now worked."
