Reaper and Nine 11: a follow-up

CNET staff
Regarding the Reaper 1.3 and Nine 11 programs mentioned here recently: Several readers report an inability to access the web site or, if they do access it, they are blocked from downloading the files because of a request to enter a password. We suspect that these problems are both due to server overload (for example, ftp servers often have a maximum number of allowed anonymous users; when this is reached, the password request appears).

More generally, we again advise caution in using this software to disable the 119 error message in Mac OS 9. Even if this allows the program to launch, it does not mean the program is really okay to use with Mac OS 9. There may be some conflict that will only emerge after several minutes of use, or only after selecting a specific command. In general, the 119 error is there for a good reason and should not be bypassed.

That said, we have received a couple of emails from users that reported success in launching and using certain programs (with no apparent problems) that had previously been blocked by this error.
