SONICblue debuts networked DVD Player SONICblue has released its first networked DVD player, dubbed Go-Video D2730, displays media stored on personal computers (such as pictures and video) on a TV screen. The D2730 works with either a PCMCIA Ethernet Adapter (included) or an optional PCMCIA 802.11b Wireless Network Card and can stream MPEG1 and MPEG2 video files that are compressed at bitrates up to 3 Mbps. The networked DVD Player can also stream audio files in both WMA and MP3 format and JPEG image files. More.

Dual-booting a dead practice An ExtremeTech article opines on the state of dual-booting operating systems, portraying the practice as going extinct: "Microsoft is about to pull that option, and require PC vendors to only install a single Windows flavor on each PC they sell. Apple has already moved to eliminate the OS 9 or OS X option in new Macintosh computers, which has led to a bit of an outcry among its users. Apple wants everyone to use OS X, and will stop shipping machines with the prior OS next year." More.
