As to what's new in Netscape Communicator 4.72: Brett Buck writes: "When you empty the email Trash folder, it no longer automatically compacts the Inbox. This seems to be an improvement to me, as sometime compressing the Inbox takes just short of an eternity." Update: Ben Rosenthal replies: "Although Communicator no longer compacts mail folders on emptying the Trash folder, it does this on quit. Users who want their mail files compacted periodically can set up Mail Disk Space preferences to compact automatically when it will save xxK. I have mine set to 0K to compact always. Again, the action occurs on quitting Netscape." Mark Mason notes: "I noticed that the Shop button on the toolbar is gone." However, Rick O'Leary found that it was still there, at least on his 128 bit version. (See previous coverage of this button.) Dave Heap found that: "Netscape Communicator 4.72, although reporting itself as 4.72 in the Get Info strings, actually is set as Version 4.3.0 in the 'vers' resource in the application. This can cause problems for scripts that check the 'vers' resource to see if the correct version is installed."
