Re-installing Mac OS X 10.2.x from CD/DVD can solve networking problems

CNET staff

Under Mac OS X 10.2.4, some users have experienced problems with seeing/mounting an AFP-Server with an extra password, especially with Windows 2000 Server. The problem can also affect users of HELIOS Ethershare AFP-Server also.

For some reason, re-installing Mac OS X 10.2.x from a CD that has a later release (like Mac OS X 10.2.3 or 10.2.4) seems to alleviate these issues for some readers. Meanwhile, applying the sequential updater or the combo updater to an earlier, already installed version of Mac OS X lets the problems stick around.

We are not sure if this is a corruption issue, or a quirk in one of Apple's incremental Mac OS X updaters. Watch for more information.
