Quote of the day: Databases reach most intimate parts of one's life

Federal prosecutors made a request for millions of search records from four major search engines in its defense of a controversial Internet pornography law.

Asked about the importance of search companies' compliance with the request, the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Kurt Opsahl argued, "Google and all the search engines have massive databases that reach into the most intimate details of one's life--the things that they search for...a window into the personality of a person. And it's critical to protect the privacy of that information so that people can feel free to take advantage of these modern tools...without fear of Big Brother looking over their shoulder."
