"Dead" iPod follow-up: waiting may cure the problem

In a follow-up to our previous report on this topic, Peter MacLaren adds:

"Given the high repair cost I procrastinated fixing my "dead" iPod. I was pleasantly surprised when after about 5 days of being unplugged, my iPod 'woke-up' when I plugged in the charger again. It seems that there could be a low battery state where the iPod won't turn on, but also won't charge. Presumably the iPod boots to a working state when power is applied to a totally unpowered unit.

Update: David Schwartzstein points out that two Apple KB articles confirm Peter's observations. Apple KB article #60942 iPod: Does Not Turn On states: "In extremely rare cases, the iPod might get into a state in which it needs to be drained completely before it can be reset. 1. Disconnect iPod from any power source and leave it disconnected for approximately 24 hours. Reconnect iPod to the power and reset it." Apple KB article #60958 iPod: Stops Responding or Will Not Wake From Sleep says essentially the same thing.
