Possibly the biggest reveal is that the Qunari — the giant, occasionally horned people that were an antagonist race in Dragon Age II — will be a playable character option.

Dragon Age: Origins allowed players to chose from a variety of races, but this option was removed for Dragon Age II, forcing players to have a human character.

Inquisition will also be larger than previous Dragon Age games, with executive producer Mark Darrah calling it "the largest game we have ever made".

BioWare revealed that the "tactical view" from the first Dragon Age game will return. Players will be able to swap from an over-the-shoulder view to a top-down perspective, allowing them to control squad mates.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is due out in late Q3 or early Q4 2014. It will run on the Frostbite 3 engine and be available on the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and PS4. The video below shows gameplay footage from Gamescom last month.
