QuickTime: Getting QT 4.0.3; QT 4.1 backpedal

Getting QT 4.0.3 In response to our query last week asking where to get a copy of QuickTime 4.0.3 on the Web, the most common suggestion was to go to this Apple page. Apple posted it there for the benefit of 68K Mac users, as QuickTime 4.1 now only works with PowerPC Macs (see also TIL article #36507).

Alternatively, a posting in the MacFixIt Forums (by Lee Marconi) pointed to this ftp site URL for obtaining the 4.0.3 version.

QuickTime backpedal As pointed out by a few readers (including MacFixIt's John Rizzo), the manual for Nanosaur v1.3 states: "Apparently QT 4.1 cannot play more than 4 or 5 sound effects simultaneously without running into errors, whereas, QT 4.0 and older could play a dozen or so." Version 1.2 of Nanosaur already included a work-around for this.
