QuickTime 7.2 Special Report: Decreased AMR export quality

QuickTime 7.2 Special Report: Decreased AMR export quality

CNET staff

We've received reports that the export quality of audio files encoded with AMR is significantly reduced under QuickTime Pro 7.2 relative to previous versions.

One reader writes:

"QuickTime 7.2 seems to have broken, or at least "massively decreased in quality" QT's ability to encode audio to AMR. Test files encoded from wav to AMR (e.g., when Exporting to 3GPP) are distorted when encoded with QuickTime 7.2, yet encode correctly with QuickTime 7.1."

Alternatives for AMR export include Switch.
