Problems with iPhoto importing Some users are reporting issues with importing some file types into iPhoto after updating to QuickTime 7.1.3. This type of problem has been caused by previous iterations of QuickTime, since the software's components are used by the image handling routines in various iApps and other applications.

MacFixIt reader Frank Reiley writes:

"Since upgrading to Quicktime 7.1.3 and iTunes 7 on my OS X 10.4.7 Mac, iPhoto 6.0.4 will no longer import to Library .jpeg photos edited with Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 for Mac.  iPhoto always crashes.

"iPhoto will still successfully import to Library .jpeg photos downloaded with Image Capture as long as they have not been edited with Photoshop Elements 3."

Try turning off Bluetooth for startup and shutdown problems If you are having startup or shutdown issues after applying QuickTime 7.1.3, try turning off Bluetooth and check for persistence of the problem.

"Shared Library" errors preventing application launch -- fix We previously reported an issue where some applications cannot be launched after updating to QuickTime 7.1.3, displaying the error message "The Application (name of application) could not be launched because of a shared library error."

Some readers now report that performing an Archive and Install then re-applying all updates (including QuickTime 7.1.3 and Mac OS X 10.4.7) can resolve tis issue. The Archive and Install process can remove potentially corrupt files -- made so by a faulty application of the QuickTime 7.1.3 update.

One reader writes:

"I am running Office X 10.1.6, I know there is a version 10.1.7 but that wont install because it also needs that Library Component.  This problem is not just isolated to Office but also with Photoshop 7.0.1.  I believe these are my only programs with this problem.  These are also my oldest programs I tried repairing permissions through the Disk Utility, Rebooting, and trying to upgrade to the current version of the un-cooperating software but nothing worked.

"In order to fix the applications not launching problems reinstalled Mac Os 10.4.3.  I have since updated to 10.4.7 and reinstalled the current versions of itunes and Quicktime and everything is working perfectly.  I believe either Itunes or Quicktime corrupted either a library or a file during installation (my first installation was from Software Update, the current install was from Disk Images."
