iCal alarm click not appearing -- fix Several users have reported an issue where the iCal alarm clock function does not work properly after the update to QuickTime 7.1.3.

MacFixIt reader James Hsieh describes the issue:

"The upgrade to QuickTime 7.1.3 has apparently broken the little alarm clock that is included in iCal.  That Alarm Clock is implemented as a QuickTime movie (located in Applications/iCal.app/Contents/Resources/alarmclock.mov

"After upgrading, QuickTime no longer plays the movie.  So the popup reminders have no associated 'vibrating clock.'"

This issue can be resolved by turning on Flash for QuickTime, which is disabled by default after installing the 7.1.3 update.

You can turn Flash back on by opening System Preferences then navigating to the "QuickTime" pane, selecting the "Advanced" tab and choosing the option to enable Flash.

Breaks Cubase SX3 GUI elements It appears that QuickTime 7.1.3 breaks elements of various instrument interfaces for Cubase SX3 audio production software from Steinberg Media.

In a posting to its own support forums, Steinberg Media (developer of Cubase) writes:

"We just learned that the latest Quicktime update to version 7.1.3 causes major graphical issues in Hypersonic 2, Tonic, Embracer and Monologue. Therefore, we can only recommend not to install that update. We'll investigate this issue and keep you informed."

Audio/video sync issues when recording QuickTime Pro 7.1.3 is recording video with the audio out of sync for some users.

MacFixIt reader Scott Rose writes:

"Ever since upgrading to QuickTime (Pro) 7.1.3, whenever we record a new movie recording with our iSight camera from QuickTime Player (File->New Movie Recording), the audio and video are terribly out-of-sync in the movie that it is recording.  Mac OS X 10.4.7, PowerMac G4 Dual 800, 1.5 GB RAM."

More "Shared Library" errors Readers continue to report issues with "Shared Library" errors that occur after the update to iTunes 7.0. MacFixIt reader Michael writes:

"I am having the same problem as Elisa with the 'Shared Library Error' when launching some applications. So far it is affecting anything from Microsoft (Office apps, IE, WMP, etc.) and also Quicken and Appleworks. Each error has to do with CarbonLib. I am only having problems with one hard drive. My second drive took the installations of QT and iTunes with no problems. While installing on my main drive I crashed when they were in the middle of updating. iTunes installed fine but QuickTime failed. I have tried reinstalling QuickTime and the installer keeps quitting before installation can finish. I have even tried reinstalling 10.4.7 from the combo updater and it doesn't help. Disk Utility fixed a couple error but QuickTime still won't install and the apps still won't open."
