QuickTime 7.0.2 (#4): Audio dropouts in other iApps

CNET staff

Audio dropouts in other iApps Yesterday we reported that QuickTime 7.0.2 is apparently causing audio dropouts in iTunes music playback. We've now received reports from readers indicating that a similar dropout/distortion issue occurs in other applications that make use of the QuickTime architecture for playback, including iPhoto and iMovie.

MacFixIt reader Herb Schulz, for instance, writes:

"Ever since going to QuickTime 7.0.2 I've experienced dropouts during iPhoto 5 slide shows that worked well under QT 6.5. I get a similar hesitation in the transitions if they are anything except a simple dissolve. This on a 550MHz TiBook with 1MB RAM, 80GB/5400rpm HD running OS X 10.4.2."

As noted yesterday, reversion to QuickTime 7.0.1 using Apple's re-installer utility will solve this issue in most cases.
