Finder quitting an re-launching: Default Folder implicated, fix We previously reported on an issue where the Mac OS X Finder unexpectedly quits in a repeated fashion, causing a series of re-launches after QuickTime 7.0.2 is installed.

In some cases, the open/save dialog box enhancement utility Default Folder X may have been the cause of this problem. The author of the program has now released an updated version that resolves the issue.

Jon Gotow told MacFixIt:

"I'm the author of Default Folder X, an enhancement utility for Open and Save dialogs. Several of our users have reported the problem covered in your report "Finder suddenly quitting and re-launching", and have discovered that, at least in their cases, Default Folder X is the culprit. I've isolated and fixed the problem and have posted version 2.0.3 of Default Folder X.

"Please note that Default Folder X is not the only cause of this problem, so updating to version 2.0.3 may not be the fix for all users, but we definitely recommend that anyone using Default Folder X download and install the update (it's free, of course).

Downgrading to QuickTime 7.0.1 Apple has now posted a package that will remove QuickTime 7.0.2 and re-install QuickTime 7.0.1 for users experiencing significant issues with the new release.

The 21 MB package is available as a standalone download from Apple's Web site.

Causing problems with Mail.app? It appears that in some cases, the installation of QuickTime 7.0.2 is causing problems with the operation of Mail.app.

A number of users report that Mail.app's toolbar becomes visually corrupt, messages do not open properly, and other issues.

Problems playing movies in Safari A few users report problems playing media in Safari since the update.

MacFixIt reader Lmbass writes:

"Since upgrading to QuickTime 7.0.2, I cannot play any movies online. Movies stored locally on my Mac play just fine. But, if I try and access a movie online, I either get a 'URL is not valid' error or a question mark over the 'Q' in the Safari browser."
