QuickTime 4.0 tidbits: Vicom software; Surf Express work-around

QuickTime 4 and older versions of Vicom software Older versions of Vicom Internet Gateway or SoftRouter Plus will not work with QT4 streaming media. Vicom states that "Only version 6 of the Internet Gateway fully supports QuickTime 4 video streaming to all client machines. The only fix that we can offer for earlier versions would be to Inbound Map QuickTime 4 port numbers to a single client behind the firewall. Then only this machine would be allowed to use QuickTime 4." As we have mentioned previously, the latest version of SoftRouter Plus will also work with QT4. (Thanks, Jonathan Fletcher.)

QuickTime and Surf Express: a work-around of sorts Regarding a previous report of a conflict between QuickTime 4 and Surf Express when playing streaming media, Robert Russes suggests this work-around: "If the Internet control panel is configured with an http proxy for Surf Express, the QuickTime Player will consistently freeze. If you disable this http proxy, streaming will work. Even though the QuickTime Player has a "no proxy" configuration, its still using the http proxy setting from the Internet control panel."
