Today, the company announced that its mobile app will now support both the Sony Xperia Z1 smartphone and the Xperia Z tablet.

Quickflix has boasted a strong relationship with Sony in the past, with its service already available on the PlayStation 4, as well as on Sony's Bravia smart TV range.

On Monday the company revealed new content licensing deals with The Walt Disney Company Australia, NBC Universal and BBC Worldwide ANZ.

The deals are for Quickflix premium content — available as pay-per-play or via a season pass — and includes series such as Downton Abbey, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, Doctor Who and Sherlock.

The expansion comes on the back of increased demand from the streaming service, with Quickflix reporting that the number of hours it streamed at the end of 2013 was up 20 per cent from the previous quarter.
