Quicken credit card transactions: a free upgrade to Quicken 2000 for some?; another AmEx work-around reported

Mike Beshara received a surprise: a free upgrade to Quicken 2000 Deluxe. He is a Quicken credit card user. Enclosed with the upgrade was a letter stating that Quicken credit card users with Macs must install Quicken 2000, update to release two, and download their credit card transactions before December 1, 1999. Failure to do so will prevent downloading Quicken credit card transactions after that date.

Meanwhile, regarding problems some have had downloading AmEx transactions with Quicken 2000 R2 (see previous coverage: a and b), Laurent Daudelin went to the AmEx web site to try to bypass this problem. He clicked to download his transactions (via the OFX option). Doing so somehow activated Quicken. Although a OL-206 error appeared, Laurent was still able to download the transactions by clicking on Quicken's "Get Online Data" button.

Update: Jamie Loeb suggests an alternative procedure, similar to what we previously reported: "With Option key pressed click on get online data button. A message about bypassing older request will pop up with the Option key pressed click on OK. Another message will pop up-with the Option key pressed click on OK. Then the request for your password will appear-enter password-and once again with the Option key pressed click on OK."
