QuarkXPress 7.3 has been released, bringing the following enhancements to the venerable desktop publishing app:

Default output styles: pre-configured options for PDF output including:

  • Press ? High Quality/High Resolution
  • Print ? Medium Quality/Medium Resolution
  • Screen ? Medium Quality/Low Resolution
  • Screen ? Low Quality/Low Resolution
  • PDF/X-1a:2001
  • PDF/X-3:2002

Additional supplemental language support: Users can now take advantage of localized user interfaces for European Portuguese, Russian, Finnish, Croatian, and Hungarian. Hyphenation and spelling support has been added for Ukrainian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Lithuanian, Slovenian, Latvian, Estonian, Icelandic, and Slovak.

Increased performance and stability: Quark says users will see improved performance when working with text-heavy and long documents, saving documents locally and on network drives, outputting documents that contain drop shadows and more.

The new release also resolves the following issues:

  • You could not save a project on a WebDAV server. This issue has been resolved.
  • QuarkXPress would break a line where you entered a soft hyphen or word joiner, even if there were other hyphenation points available. This issue has been resolved.
  • You could not enlarge any layout window to 2560 x 1600 resolution. Also, if you used two monitors, you could not enlarge the layout window to any resolution on the second monitor. This issue has been resolved.
  • If you tried to open a project that was created in a previous version of QuarkXPress, and that product did not contain a style sheet named "Normal," QuarkXPress would unexpectedly quit. This issue has been resolved.

The QuarkXpress 7.3 updater is available as a 320 MB download.
