QuarkXpress 6.5: QuarkVista and large images; Photoshop Import plug-in not included

CNET staff

QuarkXpress 6.5, released yesterday, incorporates a number of new features including: the ability to apply image effects directly on the QuarkXPress page; purported support for native Photoshop files; variable data printing and more.

However, readers are reporting issues with some of the new functionality.

QuarkVista and large images QuarkVista is the new XTensions module that allows image manipulation within XPress documents. Unfortunately, MacFixIt reader Paul Humphreys reports the feature has problems with large images:

"QuarkVista doesn't like large images, try and apply a gaussian blur to a 40 MB TIFF and it's hello beachball."

Photoshop Import plug-in not included MacFixIt reader Garry Bradley reports that his package did not include the touted Photoshop import plug-in:

"Just downloaded the Quark 6.5 update and discovered they?ve been considerate enough not to include the Photoshop import Xtension in the package. How lackluster can Quark be to just 'forget' to include it? No doubt they're going to have to have it as a separate download now and come up with some excuse why it happened."
