QuarkXpress 6.5 (#3): Clearing font caches

CNET staff

We continue to receive reports of font issues with QuarkXpress 6.5, specifically with recognition. One MacFixIt reader writes:

"I actually seem to have more font problems with Quark Xpress 6.5 than I did with 6.1. Specific examples of problem fonts are Caslon 224, and Garamond, in addition to Zapf Dingbats which has been a problem ever since the upgrade to OS 10.3.5."

Reader Seth Elger suggests clearing font caches to resolve some of these issues, which can be accomplished with the freeware utility Font Cache Cleaner, or via the following Terminal commands:

  • cd ~/Library/Caches
  • sudo rm *.fcache*
  • sudo rm *.FODB*
  • cd /Library/Caches
  • sudo rm *.fcache*
  • sudo rm *.FODB*
  • cd /System/Library/Caches
  • sudo rm *.fcache*
  • sudo rm *.FODB*
  • sudo rm fontTablesAnnex*

A restart may be required after performing these operations.
