Quark save file glitch Two readers (Michael Portaro and Ron Vyskocil) report a similar problem with the recent QuarkXPress 4.11 update. Michael writes: "If I open a file with an imported graphic, then open the graphics Publisher, change it, and then save it, it tells me it cannot be saved because the file is in use. I must quit Quark to save the file." Ron Vyskocil adds: "We are having problems checking the file names of linked graphics within Quark's Usage menu, and also within the Publisher feature. Both are giving us a 'Can't save the illustration, the file is busy or in use. ID=47' In order to update or modify recently saved files from within Quark, we must quit out and relaunch Quark." There is also a MacFixIt Forums thread on this topic, which notes the problem occurring in version 4.1 and (according to one user) was fixed by updating to 4.11. Thom Osburn confirms a similar set of symptoms. MacLabel Pro crashes persist You won't find it on the Avery Web site, but Alan Fullilove informs us that you can order a copy of MacLabel Pro 1.74 by calling 1-800-GO-AVERY. The only problem is that Alan has the same problem with this update that he had with the previous 1.61 version: It crashes after requesting to print. Gary Dalzell concurs: "I am having the same problem with 1.74 as I had with 1.61 running on Mac OS 9.04 on a G4. I get a hard crash as the print file spools to Epson Monitor. After restart, the file remains in the print queue and prints normally. Version 1.61 did print without problems on Mac OS 8.6 on an iMac." Fixing audio CD skipping If you get occasional "skipping" when playing audio CDs, this updated TIL article #31173 notes that installing the new Multimedia Update 1.0 should fix it. Multimedia Update 1.0 good news While the recent Multimedia Update 1.0 is causing problems for some users (see previous item), Klay Anderson found that it helped him even on a Mac that supposedly does not qualify for the update. Klay writes: "Although this update won't install on my 7300/XLR8G3 (the installer says it doesn't need it), I used TomeViewer to extract the new ATI drivers that are part of this update. Installing them has eliminated a lot of my ATI card-based Finder crashes." Thomas Gubiotti confirms this.
