Qualcomm in the midst of layoffs, report says
The company is thinning out its middle-management ranks in an attempt to cut costs, according to unnamed sources in a GigaOm report.
Qualcomm, which has most recently gained attention for its mobile processors, but builds a wide array of mobile components, is laying off some of its employees, according to a new report.
The company is currently thinning out its middle-management ranks, GigaOm reported on Thursday, citing people who claim to have knowledge of its plans. Many of the cuts have come at the vice president level and down, and a single division saw 100 people lose their jobs, GigaOm's sources said.
Qualcomm was seemingly performing well in the mobile space, with itsmaking its way to several devices. However, the company is one of several mobile-chip makers and is feeling increased pressure on pricing.
Qualcomm declined CNET's request for comment on the report.
