QPS Que! USB disk-at-once write work-around

CNET staff
A reader has found another work-around to create audio CD copies with a Que! CD-R USB 4x drive using disk-at-once (DAO) write mode. Also see our previous coverage. Dana Reed writes: "I successfully burned an audio CD at 4x with my QPS Que! 4x2x8 CDRW drive by using Toast Deluxe 4.1 in conjunction with the USB support extension from the Toast 4.1.1 update. Using Toast 4.1.1 instead of 4.1 doesn't work because 4.1.1 forces you into DAO mode when copying directly from one CD to another, but 4.1 lets you choose. DAO seems to work with this drive at 2x, but it hangs with an 'Illegal Sense' error when the burn completes and after Toast prompts you to eject the disc. The only way to get the disc out is to cycle the drive's power." A related MacFixIt Forum thread has some new and interesting information on possible changes to the software bundled with Que! drive, an update from QPS on the DAO issue, and it mentions that Adaptec Toast 4.1.2, which hopefully will fix the DAO problem once and for all, may be available in about six weeks.
