Qarbon utility did not work in Netscape Regarding yesterday's mention of Qarbon Viewlet software, two readers (Marcia Oddi and Fred): note that the software did not work when running Netscape Communicator. When trying to run the sample Viewlet, this error message appeared: "Oops! Your Browser is unable to open a Viewlet. For now please use MS Internet Explorer 4.5 ." This occurred despite the fact that the web page claims that the software "produces a very compact movie file (Viewlet), which plays in any browser, on any platform, without a plug-in."
Update: Tim Rinkel found the following note on this Qarbon web page: "Netscape not yet supported (bad Java implementation in Navigator)." It requires Apple's JVM.

Setting up Muffin Recently, we mentioned the Muffin Java-based proxy server, but declined to go into the details of how to set it up. For those that are interested, this MacOrchard page walks you through the needed steps.

ACT and ObjectSupportLib Michael Pearce writes: "The ACT 2.8 installer put a copy of ObjectSupportLib in my Extensions Folder." As has been noted here before, this extension is a common cause of problems in recent OS versions and should probably not be installed in Mac OS 8.0 or later.
