PS4 on contract from O2, bundled with Xperia Z1
O2 is offering Sony's new console as part of a big bundle, but expect to shell out at least £52 per month.
O2 will be flogging Sony's new PS4 console when it goes on sale in the UK on 29 November.
The next-gen gaming system will be on sale as part of a big bundle that includes the Xperia Z1 smart phone, 12 months access to Sony's PlayStation Network and a copy of Killzone: Shadow Fall. You'll need deep pockets though -- an example tariff sees you paying £52 per month, plus an upfront cost of £90.
That's a total cost of £1,338 over two years. The PlayStation 4 costs £349 by itself, while the Xperia Z1 currently costs £444 at Amazon. A year's PSN access costs £40, and Killzone: Shadow Fall costs £48, for a total of £881.
It's therefore considerably more expensive to go with O2's offer, but buying on contract saves you from shelling out a huge sum all at once. To really get the most out of this bundle though, you'll need to be desperate to own the Xperia Z1, which is a great smart phone, but not necessarily more tempting than, say, the Samsung Galaxy S4, the iPhone 5S or the bargain-tastic Nexus 5.
The console and phone bundle is available on O2's Refresh contract, which splits your monthly cost into two elements -- the cost of the hardware itself, and the cost of the airtime, which is your minutes, texts and data.
That example contract gets you unlimited calls and texts, and 1GB of data to use with your Xperia Z1. The 'limited stock' of PS4 consoles are only being sold in 65 O2 shops, and not online. To see a list of places you can buy the bundle, click here.
I asked O2 if there are plans to sell the Xbox One as part of a similar bundle, but was told the network has nothing to announce.
