Prof watching porn forgets to unhook laptop from projector

Sometimes technology can defeat even the most intelligent. A visiting professor at a Dutch university is exposed, as his private viewing was there for all to see.

The pressure on the world's educators is enormous.

They are asked to mold genius from raw material that wouldn't fetch much on the commodity exchanges.

It's hardly surprising that they need to find outlets of relaxation wherever and whenever they are able.

Who, then, could not have sympathy with the professor who visited Wageningen University in the Netherlands, only to have technological misfortune visited upon him?

I am largely grateful to Gawker for its patrolling of Reddit, which was alerted by a newspaper article in the Netherlands.

The Dutch seemed keen on pointing out that the unfortunate professor was Belgian, as if a Dutch professor would never succumb to such behavior.

Oh, I almost forgot what behavior we were talking about. Well, he was reportedly watching pornography on his laptop.

You might think this was discreet enough. Just. The classroom was empty of students. The professor had just finished his lecture. And politicians in parliaments do it all the time.

Sadly, though, his laptop was still hooked up to the class projector.

No, no one walked into the classroom. It's merely that, in another technological twist, there were students out there online who had been watching the lecture and hadn't yet left to do something else.

One helpfully took a screengrab, and the professor was reportedly told to go back to his home of Ghent University in Belgium and not to return to Wageningen.

I had always thought the Dutch to be rather liberal about this sort of thing -- about most sorts of things, indeed.

Yet no sympathy appears to have been offered here.

However, in perusing the Reddit thread, I see that one person has reached out a hand to comfort the professor.

Her name is Katie. Her profession? "I do Social Media (twitter, tumblr, etc.)."

She wrote: "We'd like to offer him a free premium membership. Tell him to email us support at pornhub.com - from Pornhub."

This is, indeed, the site upon which the professor's eyes and fingers so needily surfed.
