Problems with QuickTime Pro 7 and Mac OS X 10.3.x (Panther): Definitive fix
Yesterday we reported on issues with QuickTime 7 when running under Mac OS X 10.3.x. The most dire issue involves a crash that occurs when the user attempts to use the "Show Movie Properties" option.
There is now a definitive fix, noted by a number of readers, including Mike Barron who describes the remedial process, step-by-step:- Quit Quicktime
- In System Preferences-> International, change your language to something other than what it is set to.
- Quit System Preferences (and then some people need to log out and log back in, though I did not).
- Relaunch System Preferences and change the language back to your preferred setting.
- Try Quicktime again. "Show Movie Properties..." should now work.
Meanwhile, if you are having other issues with QuickTime 7 under Mac OS X 10.3.9, several readers note that simply using the QuickTime 6.5.2 re-installer will restore a mode of operation similar to before the upgrade.
