Problems with DualDisc format (e.g. Dave Matthews' Band 'Stand Up') on slot-loading Macs

CNET staff

Several readers have reported issues using media in the relatively new DualDisc format, which has DVD data on one side and audio CD data on the other side, in Macs with slot-loading optical drives.

MacFixIt reader Dale, for instance, writes:

"The slot loading macs cannot play the new DualDisc CDs that are now popular. The DVD side plays fine, but the CD side will not load, due to the greater thickness."

A poster to Apple's Discussion Boards, Eric Haase, adds:

"I am having trouble with my new Dave Matthews Band "Stand Up" DualDisc CD/DVD. This is a single disc with one side being a an audio CD and the other side being a DVD. The DVD side works fine in my iMac G5 w/Superdrive. The CD side does not work at all- in fact, the computer ejects the CD about 20 seconds after I insert it, with no dialogue box appearing or anything. The CD works fine in my car CD player, however."
