Problems applying new releases through Software Update

Try the standalone downloads.

A few users have reported problems applying the recent QuickTime 7.4 and iTunes 7.6 releases through Software Update.

MacFixIt reader Jim Connerly writes:

"When I use Software Update it downloads the QuickTime and iTunes updates, then tells me it can not open and decompress the files to install them. I have tried 4 times, rebooted each time after the first, over a period of 5 hours, same results every time, seems to down load correctly, but then I get a dialog that the files will not decompress and the Software Update Window shows the files with an exclamation point inside a red circle in front of the file names."
