Problems applying new releases through Software Update
Try the standalone downloads.
A few users have reported problems applying the recent QuickTime 7.4 and iTunes 7.6 releases through Software Update.
MacFixIt reader Jim Connerly writes:
"When I use Software Update it downloads the QuickTime and iTunes updates, then tells me it can not open and decompress the files to install them. I have tried 4 times, rebooted each time after the first, over a period of 5 hours, same results every time, seems to down load correctly, but then I get a dialog that the files will not decompress and the Software Update Window shows the files with an exclamation point inside a red circle in front of the file names."
If this occurs, try using the standalone download versions, which Apple has now provided:
- iTunes 7.6 [45MB]
- QuickTime 7.4 for Leopard [55MB]
- QuickTime 7.4 for Tiger [51MB]
- QuickTime 7.4 for Panther [50MB]
- iMovie 7.1.1 [16MB]
- Front Row 2.1.2 [16.8MB]
