Problem installing InDesign 2.0: final follow-ups for now

Regarding yesterday's report on InDesign install issues, we have the (hopefully final!) follow-ups:

David Roper writes; "I found that removing the Adobe file from the /Library/Application Support/ folder allowed the Installer to run and complete properly. Afterwards, you can replace any files from the folder you removed in the new folder the installer creates."

Richard Floch similarly adds: "I have managed to correct what was, for me, the underlying problem. It appeared to be caused by the fact that previously installed Adobe Software (in my case Illustrator 10 or Acrobat 5.05) had created a folder called 'Adobe' within the Application Support folder in the Library folder at the system level of OS X. In my case this folder had an owner of 'unknown' and was marked as read-only for all users other than the owner. It may have been created when I installed the previous software under a different user-administrator that had since been deleted. In any case, changing the privileges to read/write solved the problem."

Steve Hirst adds: "I found the installation would complete if sent to a separate partition or separate drive. However, the problem of launching InDesign 2 in OS X still remains. The splash screen will indicate loading of all components up to the last item, "executing startup services..." Then InDesign will start to put up its menu bar, at which time it will predictably fail. An Adobe rep indicated to me Adobe is working on a patch to handle Unix permission problems and in the meantime users should check the use in Classic box for the application."
