Primedia appoints new vice president

Magazine publisher Primedia says it has appointed Peter May as vice president of entertainment for Primedia Business Magazines & Media. The company said May will be responsible for increasing market share and revenue. May will also oversee the entertainment division's 14 magazine titles, including Entertainment Design, Electronic Musician, Mix, Broadcast Engineering, Video Systems, Lighting Dimensions and Millimeter, and related Internet and event properties. May's position is effective Aug. 13 and will be based in the company's Emeryville, Calif. office. 40-year-old May previously worked for CMP Media, formerly known as Miller Freeman, as vice president and group publisher of Network Magazine and Tele.com. New York-based Primedia publishes more than 230 magazine titles, including Seventeen, New York and American Baby. In January, Primedia unveiled a new subsidiary in partnership with Brill Media Holdings. Shortly after, Primedia purchased About.com and eliminated 160 jobs to reduce costs.
