'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' trailer makes killing zombies look classy
Hold on to your corsets! These zombie slayers bring weapons to ballroom dances and tea parties in an entertaining twist on author Jane Austen's beloved romantic novel.
Following proper protocol during Regency-era England feels like a full-time job.
But when you're a young woman looking for love and purpose in life it can be extra difficult, especially when some of the men you meet are literal monsters.
The classic Jane Austen novel "Pride and Prejudice" gave rise to the popular 2009 Quirk Books horror parody novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, and now we'll see that twisted version of the story on the big screen. In the upcoming Lionsgate movie "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" we see the complicated life of Miss Elizabeth Bennet, played by Lily James (Lady Rose of "Downton Abbey"), as she navigates the challenges of Regency-era high society.
Oh, and she kills zombies. Maybe her "fine eyes" won't matter as much as her fine arm.
While Austen purists and English-literature lovers may raise an eyebrow at the idea of the civilized Liza Bennet and her sisters slashing and stabbing their way through a classic tale of love and regret, many of us have been excited at the prospect of seeing a predictable romance story get a much-needed injection of horror hijinks.
After all, sometimes a classic could use a zombie or two to liven up the plot.
In this official UK movie trailer, the Bennet sisters are seen dancing, flirting with gentlemen callers, riding horses, looking longingly into the distance for love and killing zombie hordes, all while wearing their fancy frocks.
Fingers crossed that the men in the story also hold their own fighting the undead. After all, we see "Doctor Who" favorite Matt Smith as Mr. Collins -- not usually a sexy role -- Sam Riley ("Maleficent") as Mr. Darcy and Douglas Booth ("Great Expectations") as Mr. Bingley in the trailer.
But the ladies -- including "Game of Thrones" Lena Headey in a yet-to-be-revealed role -- are the ones shown grabbing knives under their skirts and fending off the zombie intruders.
To be fair, even zombies should have enough manners to know not to show up to a ball without an invitation.
IMDB says to expect the film in February 2016, but we'll wait patiently for more information, like a proper member of polite society. And start stockpiling ammo and boxes of tea.
