PowerBook G4 12" review The Washington Post has chimed in with its opinion on the new PowerBook G4 12", stating "It's possible to mistake Apple Computer's new 12-inch PowerBook G4 for its own manual -- the foam envelope that protects the laptop in the box is only a little longer and wider than the plastic pouch for the documentation. About 11 inches wide, 85/8 inches deep and less than a quarter-inch thick, this PowerBook is the smallest laptop Apple has ever built, and at 4.6 pounds it's almost its lightest." More.

Tangled in Spam A New York Times article looks at the more detrimental effects of unsolicited bulk e-mail. "Internet service providers. Corporate tech staffs labor to deploy filtering technology to protect their networks. The cost is now widely estimated (though all such estimates are largely guesswork) at billions of dollars a year. The social costs are immeasurable: people fear participating in the collective life of the Internet, they withdraw or they learn to conceal their e-mail addresses." More.

Macromedia offers subscription plan Macromedia has announced a subcription plan for keeping users up to date with the MX product line. The company's new subscription service, Macromedia DevNet, will come in two flavors. The professional version gives subscribers access to the latest updates of the company's main tools for Web development and design, including Flash and Dreamweaver, both of which are likely to be the subject of upgrades by the end of this year. Pixar switches from Sun to Intel In a symbolic move that may reveal Steve Jobs' lack of confidence in non-Intel processing platforms, Pixar (Jobs' other company) is replacing servers from Sun in its render farm -- a bank of servers that fuses artists' images into finished film frames -- with eight new blade servers from Racksaver. In all, the blade system contains 1,024 Intel 2.8GHz Xeon processors, and it runs the open-source Linux operating system. More.
