PowerBook G4 12": 100GB hard drive noise

Reader Sean McGonagle describes a problem with the 100GB hard drive on his new PowerBook:

"There seems to be a problem with the new 12" PowerBook with 100GB hard drive. There's a strange noise coming from the hard drive area, like a bouncing or clicking sound. The Apple Discussion board shows that this seems to be a common problem with the new 100GB models (but not necessarily the 80GB models).
