PowerBook G3 USB wake-from-sleep crash and mouse drivers; a work-around

CNET staff
Daniel Katz found that Macally iMousePro drivers cause a crash when a PowerBook G3 Series 33 (ROM 1.6) wakes from sleep. The same problem occurred with the latest Kensington MouseWorks drivers.

USB-related wake-from-sleep crashes have been well-documented. Some seem specific to the new PowerBook (see a and b). Others seem more general and may be fixed by using the latest version of the USB DDK drivers, although not in all cases (see c and d).

In Daniel's case, Macally tech support told him that they are aware of this issue and confirmed it as a conflict between the USB driver and Energy Saver. They said they are currently working with Apple to resolve the issue. In the meanwhile, they suggested trying USB Overdrive. This solved the problem.
