Power Mac G5 falls asleep uncontrollably

Power Mac G5 falls asleep uncontrollably

CNET staff

It appears that some G5s are insomniacs and others are narcoleptic.

In addition to a problem where single-processor 1.8 GHz PowerMac G5s do not fully sleep under Mac OS X 10.3.5, a few users have started reporting an issue where some G5s fall asleep right after waking up.

A thread on Apple's Discussion boards contains posts from a handful of users who are experiencing the problem, including MacFixIt reader Drew Saur who writes:

"It looks like all three of us to post so far have dual processor G5s with 1.5 GB of RAM. When we wake our computers from sleep, they sometimes go back to sleep, either right away or (in my case, when the computer wakes itself automatically) after a minute or two of inactivity upon awakening. I know our G5s are wonderful machines, but could they know better than we do when they are not needed?

"It's definitely a lesser issue than the other notorious sleep issue that some people have with their G5s, but it's still annoying."
