Power Mac G4 Dual Optical Problems

We've received a number of reports regarding the recently announced Power Mac G4 Dual Optical desktops. Among the most commonly noted problems:

• Joe Quint writes "On my new Power Mac G4 Dual Optical, When I attach my ipod to the second firewire port, it takes a very long time to mount. Sometimes it doesn't (and i need to hard restart) and, when it does mount, it shows up as a removable hard drive icon... not the iPod icon.
• Several readers reporting a "popping" noise heard once when the machine boots and again as the extensions load, as well as general excessive noise - especially under Mac OS 9.
• The lack of a standalone Mac OS 9 CD is causing a roadblock for numerous readers who wish to perform a clean install.
