As we have been reporting extensively this week, Apple pulled the iPhoto 4.0.2 update (released Monday) two days later on Wednesday. All mentions of the update had been removed from the Apple website, and links to the update resulted in a "Page Not Found" error. Apple has thus far provided no explanation as to why the update was removed and is unlikely to do so for potential legal reasons, but a few readers are reporting issues with version 4.0.2 that may be behind the removal.

Synchronization of entire folder MacFixIt reader Dik Gregory reports that iPhoto 4.0.2 insists on synchronizing every picture in his library instead of just those that have been updated:

"It's not just the delay in closing iPhoto 4.0.2 that's the problem. I sync several folders between my home and work computers via a Firelite smartdisk. It turns out that you only have to open and close iPhoto 4.0.2 ie without actually making any changes for the sync software to see all the photos as having changed. I then have to wait while it needlessly syncs my collection of nearly 2000 photos."

Problems ordering books Enrique Pardo reports an issue with ordering published photo books using the Share>Order Book function which allows you to purchase a hardback album of your book for about US$30.

"I may have found a problem with iPhoto 4.0.2 installed on my PowerBook G4. When trying to order a book, I just can't. iPhoto assembles it and then just stops with no notice (a bit like Apple on this matter!). On the other hand, I do not have any quitting problems. My iPhoto quits fine and fast.

Pardo's issue makes sense, since iPhoto 4.0.2 purportedly makes changes to the European book ordering scheme.

Quit time In addition we previously reported that iPhoto 4.0.2 takes an extremely long time to quit for some users

iPhoto 4.0.3 iPhoto 4.0.3, available as a web download or via Software Update, may fix some of the above issues and is recommended for all users who applied the pulled iPhoto 4.0.2 update.
