Possible explanation for PowerBook G4 17" popping noise

CNET staff

An anonymous MacFixIt reader has another possible explanation for the widely reported PowerBook G4 17" "popping noise" phenomenon:

"My friend at the apple store explained how the new sound cards will power down if not used for a while, and if a loud sound is triggered you might get a pop. It's just because the sound module saves energy by shutting down. It can't be fixed, but maybe disabled since they get a lot of complaints."
