Nvidia has announced that it is working on creating a port of Valve's fan favourite Portal for the Shield handheld, powered by Android.

The game will be a full port of the original PC game, created with Valve's blessing; and, while it is being created for the clamshell Shield, it will be also be available on all Android devices powered by Tegra 4 chips.

"Nvidia has created a very powerful and unique device with Shield," said Valve's Doug Lombardi. "Our companies have a strong history working together and we're looking forward to Portal's arrival on Shield."

Although the company makes no mention of whether the game will also be updated with touchscreen controls, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said at the GPU Technology Conference that Portal would not be locked to Tegra devices and may be made available for the wider Android at some point in the future.

Nvidia are yet to announce pricing or a release date, only saying that the game was "coming soon".
