Porsche thanks 1 million Facebook fans
Porsche offers its 1 million Facebook fans a chance to have their names on a museum-displayed model.
If Facebook were a country, it would be the third most populated in the world (behind China and India). Of its 5 billion users, 1 million have become "fans" of Porsche. Now, Porsche says, these fans are in for a treat.
To celebrate the landmark number of Facebook fans, Porsche is letting those fans include their names on a special model that will be on display at the Porsche Museum Stuttgart, Germany. Fans have until December 31, 2010, to opt in on the offer. The car, with all the names, will be shown in February 2011.
"Although we are witness to passionate customers and fans every day, it is neat to set another Porsche milestone by growing to over 1,000,000 strong on Facebook," said Josh Cherfoli, online relationship and marketing manager for Porsche Cars North America, "It's an excellent opportunity to help us connect with our fan base, and we thank them all for sharing our passion."
To become a Porsche fan on Facebook, and have the chance to get your name on the car, log onto Facebook, find the Porsche page and click the "like" button. There are a couple of other buttons to click to get your name on the car. And when I tried it, I kept getting an error message. But I'm not giving up.
Porsche also has other features for its online fans. There is, for example, the Porsche Family Tree Web site, where visitors can post their story with the Porsche brand on an interactive "family tree," and add a picture of their car. Currently, there are more than 3,500 unique Porsche stories on the site.
