Palm announced a shakeup to its board of directors on Monday that includes the naming of Polycom CEO Robert Hagerty to the company's ranks. John Doerr, general partner of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and Jean-Jacques Damlamian, special adviser to the chief executive officer of France Telecom, will not return, Palm said. Neither man sought reelection at the company's recent annual shareholders' meeting. The move reduces the number of Palm board members at the handheld manufacturer from 10 to nine. Eight of the board members are outside directors.

Hagerty will now help shape the company's strategy on its Treo smart phones and Palm LifeDrive mobile managers, as well as software, services and accessories. Hagerty joined Polycom in 1997 and helped the company build voice, video, data and Web applications and also conference phones. Before that, he was president of Stylus Assets, and held senior-management positions with Logitech.
