Photos: Hands-on with the Casio Exilim Z19, Z85, Z250 and Z300

We would like to stick in a Z Cars reference here, but that's going so far back even we wouldn't get it. So rather than showing our age, we're going to crack on with introducing Casio's brand-spanking-new Exilim Z-range, comprising the Z19, Z85, Z250 and Z300.

All four cameras boast a dedicated movie button for H.264 movies, as is Casio's welcome wont, and auto shutter function. This automatically snaps when it detects a smile -- grrr -- or, much more sensibly, when your hand stops shaking long enough for crisp, clear shots.

The Exilim Card EX-Z19, pictured, is a 9.3-megapixel point-and-shoot with a 3x zoom and 37.5-112.5mm equivalent focal length to 35mm film. It packs a 66mm (2.6-inch) LCD screen.

This slender snapper comes in five flavours, and if you've never given any thought to what shade of pink you like bestest, now's your chance, because the options are green, silver, black, light pink and very pink. Simplicity and style, and apparently pinkness, are the keywords here, for £130.

Next up, the £150 Exilim Zoom EX-Z85 is a dainty 9.1-megapixel point-and-shoot available in six colours, and again, there's a choice of pinks: pale pink, vivid pink, green, blue, black, orange, brown and silver. It sports a 3x optical zoom and another 66mm LCD.

It also boasts a new night-vision view, which can mean only one thing: when we get a review sample model in we'll be creeping around in ninja gear and generally playing silly beggars. In case you were wondering, we get our ninja gear from the ninja shop somewhere on the high street -- we'd give you the exact location, but it's never in the same place twice and we can never find it unless it wants us to.

The £200 Z250 comes in six vibrant colours starting with black, and although we've never heard of ninjas dressed in silver, gold, red, blue or pink, we suppose it is the 21st century and we have to be open-minded.

Next up is the big daddy: the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z300, a 10.1-megapixel £230 snapper that only comes in 'ard-as-nails colours -- black, silver and gold. With specs like 1,280x720-pixel high-definition video, 28mm wide angle lens and 4x optical zoom, this camera is so hard it makes ninjas look like anthropology students. It also features auto shutter, make-up mode, a 76mm LCD and -- haaang on...

Make-up mode? This new setting airbrushes your photographs, removing even the smallest of blemishes to rescue that Facebook album of your last birthday down the Goat and Monkeynut... or is it insidious beauty fascism oozing from the slebridee gossip rags into public life? You, to coin a phrase, decide.
