SAN FRANCISCO--PeopleSoft wants to be an even kinder and gentler business software supplier.

The Pleasanton, California-based firm, already known for its dedication to service, announced this week at its user group conference here a new program for speeding up and easing implementations of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.

Business software makers like PeopleSoft are all pushing programs designed to streamline the process of implementing their massive software systems. The programs usually consist of services and pre-configured software that meets the majority of a company's needs.

For the new program called PeopleSoft Advantage, the firm is introducing its new PeopleSoft implementation toolkit and the PeopleSoft Express rapid implementation program with a fixed-cost option.

"PeopleSoft has always been dedicated to customer success, and we wrote the book on rapid implementations," said Dave Duffield, PeopleSoft's president and chief executive. "PeopleSoft Advantage allows PeopleSoft consultants and partners to address the needs of customers through every phase of the application lifecycle using PeopleSoft."

The toolkit is a Web-based guide to all things PeopleSoft. It is a database and analysis tool that users can call on to figure out how to go about, say, an upgrade, or customizing a specific application to a firm's unique processes. It contains information and guidance for the entire software cycle, from selecting software to implementing it, operating it and upgrading it.

It comes with an implementation workbench for planning and then carrying out and documenting implementations, and future releases of the toolkit are to come with industry specific programs.

The toolkit is currently in beta test. General release is scheduled for the first quarter of next year. PeopleSoft Express is to be ready at the same time.
