PC-to-Mac Migration Kit Debuts CNET reports on a 25-person startup called Detto Technologies that has started selling Move2Mac, a combination of software and a customized USB (universal serial bus) cable that helps PC users move many of their files and settings to a Mac. The company had been selling a solution to move from one Windows system to another. "Although music lovers may find that it takes hours to transfer all their files using the USB cable, Coyle says that many consumers find they have only about 500MB of files that need transferring--a process that takes around 15 minutes." An AirPort network that follows You Wired News reports that Vivato, a startup company will announce a new base station technology that can provide wide area coverage for existing Wi-Fi laptops and other computers. Using a computer-controlled antenna array, Vivato’s prototype bases can reach large groups of users on existing laptops and other computers, with an operating range up to 7 kilometers outdoors, the company claims. Wired News reports that in a recent demo, Vivato employees demonstrated working wireless coverage inside a five-story building in San Francisco from a single base station across the street. More.

On Friday, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly upheld most of Microsoft's antitrust settlement with the Justice Department and rejected arguments by nine states that Microsoft needed to be slapped with tougher sanctions to ensure competition. However, the Washington Post reports that European regulators and Linux may still pose a threat to Microsoft this year. More.
