Parallels Desktop 2.2.1884 has been released, bringing Mac Pro support and compatibility with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) to the virtualization software that allows Windows XP and other operating systems to run within Mac OS X.

A press release states:

"The update RC, which is free for all Parallels Desktop users, adds support the recently released quad-processor Mac Pro towers outfitted with up to 3.5GB of RAM. [...] The update RC also offers full compatibility with the developer builds of Mac OS X 10.5, code-named 'Leopard.'"

The new release also includes experimental guest OS support for the beta builds of Windows Vista, the next-generation of Microsoft's Windows operating system. Vista is due to be generally available in 2007.

Other enhancements include:

  • Solaris guest OS no longer hangs after suspend/resume
  • An improved Parallels Tools package
  • Full support for OpenBSD 3.8 as a guest operating system
